Paul Pennell

Artist Bio

Paul Pennell is a silversmith who has been involved with Vintage and Classic cars all his life. On leaving school he joined the family Restoration business and his Father Don a lifelong traditional Panel Beater taught him the trade of making handmade wings and bodies in steel and aluminum concentrating mainly on 1920’s and 1930’s Rolls-Royces and other quality marques and a variety of historic racing cars.

When Paul’s Father died in 2005 the decision was taken to close the Restoration business to allow Paul to concentrate on his other business interests but still being a lifelong car enthusiast Paul has retained two fully restored 1926 Vintage Rolls-Royce Tourers in the family collection and was looking for a way to continue to have an active involvement in the old car world albeit on a greatly reduced scale hence the birth of Artistry in Aluminum.

The handmade pictures that Paul creates are termed ‘repousse’ work which is the creation of 3 dimensional shapes and pictures in sheet metal by the use of traditional embossing and chasing techniques. Paul uses Aluminum as it lends itself to depicting cars and creating motoring art and, much as it is not possible to achieve as much finite detail as in a painting the reflections and light on the three dimensional shapes, really capture the essence and shows the shapes in a way that a painting cannot.

Since Paul started in 2009 he has exhibited at a number of major shows including the famous Goodwood motoring events where he has sold pictures to collectors from America, Switzerland and South Africa, he has also sold pictures to several PLC's for display at their Headquarters and was recently invited by Mercedes to display his works on their stand at the annual Truckfest event at Peterborough and has just completed a picture of their latest Actros for them.

Much as Paul is best known for his car work he has recently started to create a much broader range of work from animals to bold abstracts and has shown these at a number of well known Art Shows including Chelsea.
His latest collection is of famous idols including Marilyn Monroe and Michael Jackson (shown in his gallery, right.)
