I am a fused glass artist whose art comes out of passion, intuition and a love of colour. I depend on my imagination to push the bounds of my experience and to challenge my existing thinking and am always looking to find new ways of expression and develop new combinations and approaches. Some of my work is abstract, some of it based on landscapes or seascapes and all of it is contemporary. I develop much of my work by focussing on details within my surroundings, such as the bark of a tree or bubbles within water, and walks with my dog in the woods near my home are often the source of my inspiration.
I particularly like the bold colours that fused glass offers (particularly bright reds, blues, greens and yellows) and the range of textures that can be formed as the glass fuses in the kiln. I am developing how to combine opal and transparent glass together to enhance the work, and have also used sandblasting and mirrors to add further interest and depth. With fused glass there is always more to learn and new things to explore, so I find it hugely rewarding to work with this medium. It is a constant source of enjoyment for me to see the raw materials transformed and my imagination becomes reality. Fusing glass is an adventure as my expectations build up before opening the kiln after a firing . Outcomes can be surprising, but never dull.
Most of my work is for walls or windows but occasional pieces are free-standing.
