Valerie Travers

Artist Bio

I am a contemporary painter and have been producing work consistently for over 23 years . I work predominantly in oils and acrylics but have used pastels extensively in the past and still do from time to time. Landscapes, the sea, sunsets and large dramatic skies have become almost a trademark for me and this inspiration is largely due to living on the island of Guernsey surrounded by sea and beautiful beaches. However, in recent years I have been drawn to abstract work and love the spontaneity and freedom of expression it allows, so I have a happy balance of subjects and mediums, depending on my feeling at the time.

I have exhibited locally for over 20 years and was delighted to be invited to exhibit my work on a permanent basis with Davis & Co in Spring, Houston, Texas until they sadly closed the gallery in 2015.   In April 2014 I won an international competition with 'Kaleidoscope.'  This was included in the marine issue of American Art Collector  in June 2014.  In June 2015 I was invited to take part in a joint exhibition at Brick Lane Gallery in London.

Three of my paintings have been accepted for inclusion in the Skipton Art Festival in Guernsey, to be held at The Greenhouse Gallery, Museum and Art Gallery, Candie, St. Peter Port, Guernsey. It is open from the 23rd April until the 18th July, 2016.

My work is absorbing -  each day is spent painting in my studio for as many hours as possible. Using colour, texture and  pure intuition makes a wonderful combination, and always inspirational! I believe art can be likened to a calling. There is no doubt in my mind that this is what I was meant to do and I am more passionate about it with each passing day!
