My work is very much cartoon in approach using pen and ink and watercolour. My main subjects tend to feature wine, sport and the professions though of late I have been exploring maps of both countries and English counties. I work for private clients and commercially selling both originals and giclee prints. The style is quite distinctive and works especially well in a commercial setting often when a complex or dull subject requires assistance thus making the material at once informative and amusing. I have appeared in galleries up and down the country and in 2001 my prints were voted the best selling images in the Fine Art Trade Guild Awards of that year. My work is seen in many settings and has been especially popular in both the leisure and commercial sectors hanging on the walls in Michelin starred restaurants - exclusive hotels and Executive office walls.
When approached to conduct a private commission I always try to make it as fun and collaborative an experience as possible for the client. They will ideally supply me with their ideas and any images (photographs etc) that they may wish to include. I will then work up an image file from which I can work up a very rough first draft. The client is then encouraged to make suggestions and to feel involved in the process before a consensus is reached and I can then move onto a formal tidy sketch. Once the client is happy I will work up the final piece using pen and ink and watercolour. The most popular private commissions are usually bought by family or friends to mark a special birthday or occasion and over the years clients have asked me time and again to provide something as often as not for the man or woman who has everything short of their life story on the page.
