Milly Welby

Artist Bio

Hi, I am a sculptress and printmaker. I live and work on the North Norfolk Coast and am inspired by its beautiful marshes and wildlife. I studied with Robert Fogell, resident sculptor at Burghley House Lincolnshire and at the Curwen Print Studios near Cambridge, with Susan Jones.

I sculpt medium sized semi abstract and chunky figurative pieces in limestone and alabaster for gardens and interiors. I am influenced by the philosophy of Jim Ede, the work of early twentieth century artists and their interest in primitive art. The British Museum's Ice Age Art: arrival of the modern mind is a latest source of inspiration.

As a printmaker I use several techniques including linocut, drypoint, etching and monoprinting. I enjoy fusing them together to create diverse monotypes in a variety of bold colour schemes. Recently I have been looking at the work of artist Morandi and his fascination with everyday objects.

I am exhibiting in the Forum Norwich in May with the Breckland Artist Group and Norfolk and Norwich Central Taster
exhibition, Norfolk Open Studios May 25th - 2nd June and tutoring sculpture at Hollow Lane Studios. Please see relevant websites.
