I am a professional figurative artist producing realistic and partial abstract contemporary oil paintings.  At this time I am concentrating on a new style of figurative works including nudes which allow me to express a different view of the female form.  I am passionate about portrait and figurative subjects and have undertaken many commissions but this new collection shows a ‘broken up’ effect enticing the viewer to look closely at the models.

The challenge for me is to create evocative and thought provoking images, especially when painting the female form. I paint with oils on canvas and strive to achieve realistic yet not photographic images painting from both life and photos taken of my models. Achieving skin tones is such a challenge but I find myself getting totally engrossed in the painting until I am satisfied with the finished work.

I also like to combine figurative with seascapes so natural light is an important factor. As I live on the south coast I have many opportunities to study light changes throughout the day as nature provides an abundance of images for the artist’s eye to perceive allowing me to achieve some dramatic images. Lately I have also been experimenting with partial abstract works using a different colour palette which I am finding very creative and absorbing.
The commissions which I have undertaken include many life portraits of clients and I was commissioned to do paintings of T E Lawrence for a new hotel venture on the theme of this fascinating character who lived in Dorset before his death. I love historical characters and painting them somehow brings them back to life.  My paintings are both small and large scale with a broad price range. Commissions undertaken.
