Janet Gardner

Janet paints dog portraits, working in a contemporary style using acrylics on canvas. Her artwork is informed by her love and knowledge of dogs. She aims to capture the spirit, personality and essence of the dog.

Janet also finds that printmaking allows her to explore the way she can express the character of a dog. Experimenting also with different subject matter.

Janet finds the texture and depth of image possible in printed image making inspiring. The techniques include linoprints, collagraphs, screenprint and solar plate etching. All have their own pleasures to her as an artist.

This year her challenge is ‘a dog a week’ using different media and techniques.

Janet was delighted to have her painting of ‘Joe’, her handsome Labradoodle, selected for the latest Acrylic Works 6 book – Creative Energy , due to be published in May by Northlight Books. Her painting ‘Peppermint’, a handsome Kune Kune pig on a bright green background, was included in Acrylics Works 4 – Captivating Colour published in 2017.

Two of her prints are included in the Red Dot mini print exhibition at Cambridge Artworks 4-7th April and then at various other locations.

Her work is displayed at Lance James jewellers, Hertford and this will form part of the Hertford Art Trail 6th April to 5th May.
