Bill FitzGibbons

Artist Bio

Hi, I am a sculptor who works primarily in the public art field. My interest in public art involves the notion of ‘placemaking’ in public spaces— celebrating and highlighting new architectural projects and even transforming mundane, and often overlooked areas from the banal to the dynamic. In addition to public art commissions, my portfolio will also show you a variety of metal sculptures, light sculptures, as well as my series of fire drawings.
My work over the last few decades has been based on the philosophy that public art components should complement and enhance the existing environment & structures by creating engaging yet practical design elements. Much of my recent work features computer programmed LED light systems. The responsive color-changing aspect of the LEDs offer a transformative and engaging quality.
I have completed over thirty-two public art commissions in five countries and have worked as part of a design team as well as with architects, engineers, landscape architects, general contractors and city/county/and state governmental agencies. Most of my projects are site specific and have all been completed on time and on budget.
