Gilly Gobinet

Artist Bio

I am Antigua artist Gilly Gobinet. I grew up in the UK then moved to the Caribbean in 1984 where I have been painting ever since, inspired by the wonderful light and bright colors of the Caribbean and the sparkling sea and vibrant  marine life.

Living in Antigua, my art is largely Caribbean-inspired in acrylic and watercolour. Many of my paintings are of tropical flowers, fruit, trees and birds, such as humming birds. As I am surrounded by the clear sparkling waters of the turquoise sea, marine life and beach scenes also feature in my art. I paint a range of underwater jscenes of turtles, fish and coral in rich blues and greens in different formats both in acrylic and watercolour.

In the 20x25cm format, I have a selection of small, figurative watercolours with abstract backgrounds, featuring, in particular, humming birds, bananaquits, pelicans, hibiscus, bougainvillea, orchids, coconut palms, seascapes, pineapples and banana palms.

My other two loves are painting nudes from life and cartoons (I have illustrated a number of books with my cartoons - the one featured here is of cricket in the Caribbean -  and produced a variety of cartoon Christmas cards).

I am currently exhibiting a collection of contemporary figurative, acrylic and watercolour paintings with abstract overtones at the Art Gallery at Sandals Grande Resort and Spa, Antigua. Their sizes vary from very small - 20x25cm   8x10" to large - over 152x152cm   5 ft by 5ft. My larger canvases are easily removed from their stretchers and rolled for shipping.

An avid dog lover myself, I also specialise in pet portraits of dogs and cats in acrylic and watercolour, working directly from high res photos provided by clients which commission them. The aim here is to try and capture the essential spirit and character of the animals: each new portrait is a challenge, which I greatly enjoy.
I  gladly accept other commissions, such as paintings of houses (I have "reconstructed" houses from photos showing just parts of them) or  paintings of particular subjects and themes and/or in particular colour tones.

I ship the finished paintings pending approval of the client of an image of the finished work sent by email.

My colour palette varies from the bright colours of the Caribbean to the more muted tones suitable for pet portraits and commissions. I paint on acid free paper (140 lbs to deckle edged 300 lbs), wood, board, canvas and canvas panels (which are ideal for shipping).

Payment is by PayPal or VISA/Mastercard.
