My art is about mood, atmosphere & colour. It reflects my main artistic passions – my fondness for all kinds of animals and my exploration of more abstractly rendered seascapes, landscapes & beautiful buildings.

My landscapes and skies capture the enchanting beauty of the South Downs and the Sussex Coast; layers of collage and splashes of paint convey the feeling, the mood, the timeless essence of each place.

My wildlife and animal paintings and etchings are full of character and expression, their personalities come alive, touching your heart as they make you smile.

All my life I’ve lived by the sea around the world: on the Gold Coast of West Africa, beside the crystal clear waters of the Bahamas, near the golden beaches of Jamaica, and on the New England Coast in the US, before raising my family near Brighton’s famous pebble beach . . . so it’s natural that I am often drawn to paint beautiful atmospheric seascapes, dramatic skies and gorgeous golden beaches. Exotic echoes and flavours of time spent in the Tropics enrich my work.

My Acrylic Landscape Paintings on Canvas are bright and vibrant.

By contrasting bold expressive brush strokes and delicate washes with embossed,  ‘sculptural’ collage and impasto elements I bring the landscape to life creating texture, atmosphere and depth …”

Having spent much of my childhood in West Africa and the Bahamas surrounded by wonderful wildlife, from the fruit bats in the trees in our garden to the geckos in every room in the house, I continue to enjoy painting animals and wildlife in watercolour.

I work exclusively from my own sketches and photographs. Beginning with a bold free sketch using a rich dark soft 6B pencil on thick textured paper, I add washes and splashes of watercolour, often also adding mixed media or iridescent touches.

As both a Painter and a Printmaker, I blur the boundaries between the two, mixing media within each image; often adding collage, watercolour, acrylic, and pen & ink to my paintings, etchings, collagraphs, linocuts and giclée prints. The influence of each medium plays an important part in determining the character of the final piece.

Enjoying the process of creation and allowing myself the freedom to experiment keeps my work fresh and exciting.

My etchings are all hand drawn, etched with acid and hand-printed by me using time-honoured intaglio techniques incorporating luxurious velvety aquatints. Each etching is individually embellished with richly pigmented watercolour, specialist acrylic media, gilding or collage. Each Etching is signed and editioned in pencil by the artist.

Images for my Original Embellished Collagraphs are built up by my creating collages of texture from a magical mixture of objects: antique lace, vintage wallpaper, mohair, raw silk, handmade Japanese & Indian paper, rich velvet… Once the image is complete, I seal it using three coats of shellac varnish. Every Collagraph in the very Limited Edition is individually inked up by hand and printed on specialist cotton paper using a traditional etching press. After the ink has dried, the edges of each Original Collagraph are hand torn and each one is embellished with watercolour and iridescent acrylic paint. Each Collagraph is signed and editioned in pencil by the artist.

I also create a range of Limited Edition Fine Art Giclée Prints  from my Original paintings in my studio which are produced with great care and attention to detail. I work on and proof the image, experimenting with colour and tone, to create a new unique Limited Edition of Fine Art. Each print is signed and editioned in pencil by the artist.

The fact that I maintain artistic control of the whole process from inspiration right through to printing, results in beautiful fresh professional Fine Art Giclée Prints always printed in lightfast pigment based ink on specialist archival paper to ensure quality and permanence.
