I am a painter in a number of media. While I was at Byam Shaw (London University of the Arts) I began exploring Encaustic - using wax as the binder or medium.I have also started dong monoprints using melted wax on Japanese or watercolour paper.
I enjoy testing the limits of what I can do with wax, while letting the unpredictability of heat become part of the image. At the moment I have been looking at space: images of galaxies and dried water-courses on Mars as well as Earth from high altitude. I am always struck by the beauty and the fragility of our planet. Recently I have used flowers and oil paint in conjunction with the wax to create aerial landscapes.
I have sold a number of works of creatures in water- whales, polar bears and frogs as the translucence of wax suits watery images.
I do also paint with oil or water colour - though my subjects tend to be more figurative in these media - while animals still remain important I like to use oil to explore colour.
I am a member of Espacio Gallery, 159 Bethnal Green Road, London, E2 7DG. My works are very affordable.
