I have a fascination for light on water, landscape, seascapes and flowers. My inspiration comes from the sense of connection I feel to the natural world and my place in it. I often incorporate earth or sand, collected on my walks, in to my work, which I mix into my paint or apply directly to the canvas. This gives richness and texture, rendering tactile memory of each place I visit.
I am concerned about the devastating pollution we are creating and how this impacts nature. In my own way, I hope to express my absolute pleasure I glean from our beautiful planet and to express its beauty as seen through my eyes, in an attempt to remind us to appreciate and value it. I think this is why I take immense pride in creating uplifting images that enhance the mood of their environment and engage the viewer positively.
As a result, my contemporary pieces hang in many private and public collections including Wirral’s Arrowe Park Hospital, Heswall Golf Club and Liverpool Aintree University Hospital. I exhibit regularly in group shows throughout the country, have had several solo exhibitions and was selected to participate at the prestigious Chester Arts Fair at Chester Race Course. I have had the pleasure of creating both private and public commissions, and sell directly through my own gallery, Seagrass Studio Gallery, in West Kirby, Wirral.
My portfolio includes abstracts, seascapes, landscapes, florals and a series around the the theme of love. I’m proud to say that both original paintings and prints hang in homes across the globe. To date I have approximately 50 images available as high quality limited edition Giclee prints. My website www.josmithart.com shows many available.
