deborah james

Impressionist painter, landscapes, seascapes, gardens, rivers & still life using clear vibrant colours.
Trained at Swansea college of Art in graphic design, my paintings carry a strong design flavour with calligraphic strokes of ink, pen and brush. The richness of purples and violets in my bluebell woods scenes are my signature along with bright orange and red in my meadows of Poppies paintings, Lavender fields, swathes of daffodils, bright sunlit days and dappled shaded glades and avenues.
Whenever I feel my work is getting too tight I remember ‘Paint not what you see but what you feel’
Sometimes an accidental splodge of watercolour or ink can be the perfect mark.
Large contemporary paintings in acrylic, oils and watercolours, mixed media using pastel and inks.
Smaller work mounted in large lime washed timber frames and pale ivory mounts.
I am an exhibiting member of The Welland Art Society, Stamford, exhibiting regularly through ‘Open Studios’ with Northampton, Rutland and Peterborough, opening my studio twice a year. I am a guest tutor for art societies in the area. I am currently finishing a fine art commissioned series of rowing & river themed paintings for the Oundle Town Rowing club.
