I trained in graphic design at Glasgow School of Art, my painting style is illustrative.
I work first hand from direct observation or from photographs taken by myself which connects me with the subject and acts as an aide memoire. Sometimes I create composited arrangements from two or more photographs, occasionally digitally altered, and perhaps transform the background or foreground to a more aesthetically pleasing scene. My favourite subjects include coastal scenes and beach huts.
I am drawn to the strong vibrant colours of beach huts and their sometimes neglected appearance. Colour, composition and texture are important visual elements in my paintings, with watercolour or acrylics the preferred media. Recently I have been developing small scale abstract work based on patterns and colours from travels abroad.
Since 2004 I have been exhibiting and selling paintings. My second solo exhibition is forthcoming in July 2015.
