Andrew Barrowman

Andrew Barrowman – Landscape Artist

I am a landscape artist based in Cornwall, UK. I love exploring the varied, dramatic landscapes and skies through the medium of oil paint. Working en plein air and in the studio I capture the atmosphere and ‘feel’ of a place without being too specific to the location.

My work relies on direct observations of nature, often whilst out walking my dogs. The contrasting light and colour motivates me to paint a landscape and my current work is concerned with this interaction rather than details. I particularly love painting broken cloudy skies that have sunlight creeping through which lights up certain areas of the landscape. This is what I am looking for when out painting combined with the contrast of cool and warm colours.

Working on several paintings in the studio at the same time allows for drying time. This means there is always something to work on in various states of readiness. I am a very keen painter outdoors, usually finding somewhere quiet, off the beaten track. Here I can work quickly and more loosely to try and capture that particular moment in time.

I now have a studio at Krowji, Redruth where I can work on larger paintings and I hold regular oil painting workshops with maximium of 5 students for more one to one tuition.

I am currently selling work through several galleries including Webbs Fine Art, Clapham London; Customs House Gallery Porthleven; VK Gallery St Ives Cambs; Lizard Art, Trelowarren Cornwall. I also sell online through my website
